topography (hair)

For this site-specific installation, strands of hair were combined with wool and hand spun into yarn. Lengths of the yarn looped around pins, forming a series of concentric circles. The resulting pattern were at once the topographical lines on a map or the whorls of a fingerprint. The very dark hair is a feature that ties me to the Asian island of my birth and yet was also a source of alienation - the common adolescent desire to change or individuate with black hair was never an easy task.
