postcards

Postcards for Mourning is an exploration of death, love and loss. The stock postcard phrase wish-you-were-here suggests the longing for a loved one. The flowers are hand drawn with ink on paper, sandwiched between layers of felt. The veiling obscures the main object, producing a sense of uncertainty. A needle felted petal embellishes the top layer, suggesting the last remaining petal from a turn of he-loves-me-he-loves-me-not or on a wilted flower. Words are embroidered with yarn. While I began with words of my choosing, the series developed by engaging viewers to suggest words.
