ordinary objects
This project began with inquiry, wondering if it was possible to knit into a coffee cup. By knitting into something, where the stitches are flush with the object’s surface, a transformation occurs. It is an embedding or intercalation, where knitting inserts itself into existing elements. The repeated circular motif becomes a creative malignancy. A disruption. And unlike covering, the brand name, logos and stains are all evident, the mundane trappings are themselves recast. The mass-produced weds with the hand made.
